To: Jimmy and family, I was very sorry to read of Charlie’s passing. I gather he had reached or had nearly reached the ripe old age of fourscore and ten. I shall certainly miss his unique conversation on rides to and from my place while my car was in your shop. I remember marvelling at his local knowledge, for he seemed to know everything that was going on. I remember, while discussing the fact we were in Stephen McNeil’s riding, that I said that it made a difference. Charlie retorted, “You’re damned right it does!”. That will be my most vivid memory of Charlie. I have no doubt he has passed on to another bigger town where he will be telling everybody that being in the Chief’s riding makes a really BIG difference! Sincerely, Ben Leonard
