I will miss Jerry. I grew up playing with both Jerry and his sister Irene in Montreal. Irene and I were the same age. Jerry was five years younger, one year older than my sister. Our mothers were very close friends that went all the way back to the German refugee camp. The mothers plotted marriages, I'm sure. We often exchanged visits on Christmas. The Workiewicz family would come to us on December 25 and we to their house on January 7. I remember Mr. Workiewicz very well. He was a proud Ukrainian. My mother always cleaned his gravesite and watered the kalina bush she planted there. I still miss Irene very much. I miss their mother even more. She was like a second mother to me. We visited Mrs. Workiewicz (as I always called her) in May 2013 and it was a shock to learn that she passed away later that year and that she is no longer with us. The last time I saw Jerry was a few years earlier at his mother's house. He was always travelling or playing golf when I dropped in to see his mother while visiting Toronto. It is a profound feeling of devastation to learn of Jerry's death.
