I am so sorry to learn of Judge Payne's passing. As a reporter in Guelph during the 1980's, I covered many trials presided over by His Honour. I remember how he frequently used his keen sense of humour to trade quips and barbs with counsel. Many a tense courtroom audience appreciated those moments. His patience, which some tried to test to the limit, was nevertheless devoted to a fair hearing. I was fortunate to have had those opportunities to see him at work.

Dear Jon, Dianne, Tanner and Maddison
You are in out thoughts during this time of
sadness.
"Every heart that has beat strong and cheerfully
has left a hopeful impulse behind it in the world and bettered the tradition of mankind."
Robert Louis Stevenson
