Croft

I took Control room turnover one morning only to learn UNIT 4 had lost one of its Boiler Level Controllers at 4 am. Karen Croft was the Authorized Operator on the unit. Karen was able to diagnose and place the standby controller into service in time to prevent a most certain reactor trip.
As my relief left, I looked over at Karen; her back was to me. I wonder how she did she do it? Faced with fatigue and alarms coming in with only seconds to respond. I had to know but I had never worked with Karen before.

I walked over to Karen and extended my hand. Karen realized someone was behind her and slowing turned around. She looked at my outstretched hand then slowly up into my eyes. A little unsure she extended her hand. I said but 2 words: "Well Done"
Karen said "Mur, I was scared"
I replied: "I know"
Somehow I had given the little girl inside of Karen permission to share her feelings.
That is something that touched my soul
