I became acquainted with John a few years ago via his letter contributions to the Halifax Chronicle Herald. Because of our common interest in history and many other subjects we had many wonderful conversations and email exchanges. We even shared a personal fondness of our cats and his book about "Pud" is an expression of John's love for his companion.
Interestingly, John and I never met face to face and I, knowing of his illness, was looking forward to making a visit to accomplish this. Regrettably, in the past week or so my failed attempts to contact him were subsequently acknowledged that his former phone and email services were no longer in service.
I very much enjoyed our many wonderful conversations with John on our many subjects of common interest and I will very much miss them.
Adieu my friend. RIP.
