Sweeney

There were 21 of us, Apprentice Soldiers (Green Monsters) , that served together from 1956 - 1958. 21 guys in a room with 21 beds with 3 feet between beds. It was almost impossible not to know your neighbour almost "intimately".
I remember Norton as being as quiet as a mouse, strong as an ox and a friend to all. He took pride in his honesty, non wavering devotion to duty and excellent work ethic. To all his family I offer my deepest condolences in his passing. I will miss him.

Along with Doug, I also served with Norton as an Apprentice soldier in Kingston, then for a spell in Gagetown. Last saw him at his home north of Fredericton in 1960 when a few of us dropped in for a surprise visit. My memories are of a guy much bigger than most of us and always with a ready, good nature. I had the pleasure of serving with Norton as a Soldier Apprentice (Green Monster) from 1956-1958 and later in Gagetown and Germany as members of 3RCHA Signal Troop. He was a wonderful friend and great Radio Operator. It was a constant friendly battle between us as to who could outdo the other in sports and work. He hated to lose at ping-pong and a verbal discussion (argument) could last for days. He never conceded that he could be wrong. He also hated it when I struck him out when playing fast ball! A great friend and comrade and he will be missed by those of us who knew him. On behalf of my wife and I please accept our deepest condolences ! Doug and Barbara Anderson
