My sincere condolences on the loss of Bev. His many students at UNB Law -- I was one -- both admired and respected him. He is missed and will be missed. I was privileged to have been his colleague for 16 years after I joined the Faculty in 1980.
I will share that Bev once cost me $1000. I had given a litigation tip to a lawyer who was able to it to benefit his client and win a case. He later sent me a cheque for $1000 - a surprise indeed. Hoping I was wrong to feel troubled by the cheque, I went to see Bev (who taught Professional Conduct; that is, ethics) . I explained the circumstances and asked if I could keep the cheque. He said "no" so I returned the cheque and did not stray from the straight and narrow ethical path.
He was one of a kind - of whom the world needs so many. Again, my sympathies. John M
