My dad is is from port hood island

Sincere condolences to the Tobey Clan on behalf of my mother, Margaret, and myself on the passing of the matriarch of your family.

I remember Vivian with great fondness as a kind, gentle, and generous woman. I think of her as the calm and dependable centre of your family, taking in her stride the ups and downs of fishing, farming, your father’s mischief and raising a large family. She contributed so much to the community both on Port Hood Island and in Port Hood - particularly with regard to local and family history. The support that she provided to Harvey in writing “A Place to Find Yourself” is a gift that she gave to everyone in the extended Tobey and Smith clans, which we appreciate.

She is central to so many of our happy family memories of Port Hood Island - I cannot remember picnics or swimming without her! I look back on summer church services on Port Hood Island, with Anna on the organ and Vivian’s and Margaret’s voices united in discord above all others singing hymns. As kids, we perhaps overlooked their deep, sincere Christian faith, but we all knew that they shared a close friendship from the time that Margaret first came to the Island in the middle of the previous century. Vivian was a wonderful friend to Margaret and lives on in our hearts and in our heads.
