My sincere condolences to his loved ones.
Sailed with Gerard on Alexander Henry and Samuel Risley.
Great Lakes, Newfoundland and through Panama from Vancouver
His unique humour was valued onboard ship. Always enjoyed talking with him. A great teller of jokes and of story.
A true one-of-a-kind who leaves behind fond memories to those who sailed with.
Rest in piece Gerard

I sailed many years with Gerard aboard the Alexander Henry and the Samuel Risley; I will always remember his good humour, love of cards and playing his flute. I had the honour of straightening it for him after an encounter with some street performer while in BC. Gerard was a friend and shipmate to many of which he shared his seamanship and work ethics and experience.
You will be sadly missed by all. Rest Well My Friend.

I sailed for many years with Gerard. He was an excellent shipmate, a hard worker, and a good friend. I have often thought of him since leaving the ship, his smile always made me smile back. His love for his family was always evident, as was his love for his ship and his mates. Sleep well my friend.
