Dr. Al Rich was a classmate of my father, Dr. Eugene “Bud” Petterson. I met Dr. Rich many times as a young girl when visiting my dad in the intern’s residence or at the medical school when they were on call during medical school. Dr. Rich was always very kind to me and my siblings. He had his own way of doing things, was shy and did mumble as mentioned by others. My dad respected his intelligence and hard work. Dad said we need many types of doctors and I’m glad that the people of Manitoba benefitted from his care. His training at the Queen Elizabeth hospital is very impressive as it is part of McGill University. I graduated from the same Med school 10 years after dad and Dr. Rich and will always remember him with fondness. Dr. Linda (Petterson) Dew MD, FRCPC, DABR Algonquin, IL
