I am so deeply saddened to hear of Mildred's death. She was such a beautiful woman and so devoted to her language. While I knew her for years, I have three beautiful memories of her-- once when she brought her class to our house in Tobique, once when she taught us to say "Kewci p ənewci" in a session at St. Thomas, and once when she and Kathy sang holy songs in Mi'kmaw privately to me in their hotel room.
Felt sad that I could not make her funeral but still wanted you to know how much of an inspiration she has been to me and Darryl. Sadly he is now into advanced dementia, but I know that he would feel equally sad about the loss of your mom.
My love and deepest sympathies to you Joan and all of your family.
