My mother-in-law died this past week at the beginning of her ninety-ninth year. She belonged to that generation that was raised amidst the hardships and deprivations of the Great Depression and World War II. Of necessity she had learned that to get ahead, one had to be industrious, resourceful, and frugal. The house that became the family home is a wonderful testament to her success. Thrifty without being stingy she was able to enrich a modest wardrobe by accessorizing it with reused items and she knew how to add extra crunch and flavour to a canned soup with the addition of fresh vegetables. To her also i owe our owning our own home. She was undeterred by a real estate agent who at the time said, given our circumstances, that we would be wasting his time. She introduced us to an agent she knew who found a deal that made home ownership possible. May angels now guide her into Paradise.
