When Everett began his undergraduate studies at UNB in the 1960s, he rented a room in our home on Valleyview Street. I was a teenager at the time. I was incredulous when he revealed his was already in his thirties. Back then, it was pretty unheard of for someone to start a university degree that late. I guess until then he’d done mostly manual labour and kept himself in pretty good shape.

My recollection of him was of a straight shooter, but not someone overly judgemental of other people, quite a decent human being. A man definitely worthy of respect.

I was so sorry to hear of Everetts passing. Gary and I send our sympathy to all of his family and friends. I will always remember Everett for his beautiful red hair (as a younger man) and his amazing singing voice. Always enjoyed our conversations at the Harper Reunion when he was able to come. He was such a kind man.
