My memory of Kay is as a passionate teacher, scholar and author. She was already speaking "truth to power" long before the phrase become common in the 2000's. She and I both spent time together teaching in The Gambia in the 1990's and her constant concern for her students was what made her such a successful and beloved professor. Her support for the advancement of women at Saint Mary's was ever present and when she was elected "Professor Emeritus" she insisted that she would rather be referred to as "Professor Emerita". It was an honor to have known her and to have worked with her. My deepest condolences to her family.
