I was deeply shocked and saddened when I came across the news that Judy had passed. Remembering the lady with the golden voice and big heart, remembering the renowned News Year’s Eve, Eve, Eve Parties at Darlington Place where everyone was welcome and everyone was glad they came and we all learned the dangers of Southern Comfort as a Nightcap at 5 in the morning, remembering heading up to Brownsburg for the weekend and being treated like members of the family by M and D, remembering her penchant for hearty debates and a good laugh. Remembering you Judy as someone who cared deeply for family and friends, we were all a little better for having known you.

We have lost something of the best part or ourselves. Judy was always focussed on people; dedicated to family, loyal and committed to friends; one was privileged to be a part of that circle. She never forgot your birthday, anniversary or your children. The conversation was about you. Judy’s intelligence could have carried her anywhere, but her ambitions were simple, compassionate, and earthly; always immersed in family and friends. She loved children, especially teens at LRHS, and animals. Compassionate hearts that leave themselves exposed and vulnerable are not nurtured in our world. This flower will be sorely missed because she is dearly remembered.

I had the great pleasure of working with Judy and meeting Mary, Karen and her periodically in Lachute for catch-uo conversations as the years went by. I am still in shock as we had been chatting on the phone regularly and met in person at the beginning of the summer. Judy always struck me as an exemplary human being. Her great sense of humour, witty intelligence and genuine empathy for others will not be forgotten. I will miss you dearly Judy. Rest peacefully. You were one of a kind!

Judy was one of my best friends throughout high school. She came on family holidays with my parents and brothers to Gaspe one summer. We shared our first cigarette and our first time becoming “women”. I saw my dear friend at the LRHS reunion in 2018 and felt she was suffering with health, however she was the same witty and brilliant gal I will forever keep in my heart as one of the best of the besties. Brenda Gates, Judy Kennedy and myself had such wonderful memories. Judy asked me about my parents and my brothers (especially Richard whom she has a crush on back in those days of pure perfect happier times) . We spoke on the phone a couple of times after the reunion, however once again, we dropped off the grid. I morn Judy’s passing today. Please accept my condolences. Sad day for me today for sure to hear the news. On behalf of my brothers and myself we send comfort and sympathy to the Kennedy family. Love, Helen Harttrup (Heagy) .
