Our hearts go out to the entire Vachon Family, but especially to you, Jean Claude, in your time of sorrow since Doris passed away. While I was working for the town of Huntingdon (2008-2011) , I had a wonderful opportunity to spend an entire afternoon interviewing Monsieur and Madame Vachon for an article I was writing for the municipal newsletter, the Huntingdon Gazette, which was bilingual. The countless stories the Vachons told me were done in harmony together, literally. One of the Vashons would start telling a story in either English or French and before I had time to realize it, the other Vachon chimed in to finish the same story in the opposite language and the three of us, by then, would be hysterically laughing. The Vashons happily reminisced about The Pool Room they operated on Bouchette Street for 30-years for 14-year old teenagers to 25-year old young adults. Their Pool Room opened in late 1968 and, due to health reasons, closed its doors in early 1994. So, M. Vachon in the next few months when you reflect back on the life you shared with Doris, don’t ever feel miserable. After one of my Grandmothers died, someone special told me: “When you speak of her, speak not with tears, for thoughts of her should not be sad. Let memories of the times you shared give you comfort, for her life was rich because of you.” I, Susanne J. Brown, and my husband, Richard Dicky Riel, who was a member of the Vachon Pool Hall when he was a teenager, would like to pass on the same piece of good advice on to you, M. Vachon, because looking back with countless good memories will help comfort you tomorrow.
