Dave and I were so sorry to hear of Rollie's passing. I have wonderful memories of many conversations with him at Milligan's wharf. One of the sweetest men I've ever had the pleasure meeting.
Rest easy, Rollie. You'll be sorely missed.

Every summer, I went to the Island; I connected with the sea and was fascinated by everything that dwelled in it.

Every opportunity I got, every penny I could muster, was to ride my bike to Milligan’s wharf and book my passage of Rolly’s deep sea fishing…

After a while, he would let me do things for him on the boat; what a thrill that was! Sometimes, French Canadians would book with him to go fishing and he would have me tag along, amused by the colorful details I would add while officially translating for him.

Then, I got to go out for free! “I am going to need help with French speaking fishermen he would say” - even when it was not the case… I know now that he just wanted me to feel useful…

One day, he went to see my Mom… As the gentleman he was, he asked her if it would be OK for him to regularly bring me along for the rest of the summer on the -Leona Ruth- That is how my relationship with Rolly started! I will never forget the following summers! I will never forget Rolland Miller.

There are no words in the English language strong enough to describe the importance Rolland Miller has had on my life; he allowed this 14 year old city slicker to build his self-confidence; he also opened up not only his friendship, but his home, and the wonderful people around him.

He has been and always will be a father figure to me; and although I am sad to hear of his passing, I want to share with my friends and family the admiration and respect I have always had for him.

Rolland Miller is one of the greatest persons I have had the privilege to meet and I will always be thankful for the time we shared! God Speed Rolly, may you reconnect with our old friends and forgive my not being there for a last visit.

To Muriel, Leona, Roger and Linda, my deepest sympathies for your loss, as I am fortunate enough to have known him and still profit from the legacy of his presence.

Sincerely,

Barney Domingue
