Doug was a gentleman in the true sense of the word - gentle, gracious, compassionate and with that ever present twinkle in his eyes, you knew he had a good joke up his sleeve to tell you. Doug was my hero - after recovering from a stroke, he volunteered for many years in the Parkwood Hospital O.T. department - carpenty shop while I worked as an O.T. Doug's whole way of being was an inspiration to everyone: to the younger spinal cord clients and to the young O.T. staff, he dispensed advice in a fatherly and caring way and to the older stroke patients he gave them hope and proof that a good life could still be had post stroke!

Doug's wife Sue, although not an official volunteer in the department, her contribution is also remembered as she would send in these amazing homemade oatmeal cookies (I have never tasted better, sorry Mom) and miniature handknit baby booties that she would give to each O.T. when it was announced they were expecting a baby. Both Doug and Sue were very generous kind hearted souls.

Doug and Sue were an amazing couple and I believe that they are now in heaven together and wow, how lucky are those angels who get to know Doug and Sue firsthand.

Fondly,

Rosemary Goodchild
