I had the pleasure of working with Syd at Confederation College. He was a very dedicated faculty member, an exceptional pilot and highly committed to his students. He was quiet, respectful and thoughtful in engaging others. He was extremely well regarded and respected. It was my privilege to know him.
My most sincere condolences to his family and friends.

I want to express my condolences to the McCrae family for the loss of my friend Syd.
Syd was my fellow Optimist Member and my partner in crime selling the tickets at the Optimist weekly meat raffles at Skeeters. We could always count on Syd showing up every week to sell tickets. Syd showed up even during the weeks we had to cancel for various reasons. I would get a text from Syd saying "I am here in the parking lot but the place is closed, or nobody is here" where is everybody?
Syd had not gotten the message that we were skipping the raffles that week.
No matter what the Optimist event Syd was the first to sign up saying I will be there.
Syd was a fellow cook frying up his big share of the 30 pounds of sausages we needed for the Optimist Breakfast with Santa held each December. I will miss his smile and his stories about his travels and his trips to see his kids and grandkids. There will be a huge hole left in our club and hearts, Syd will be missed by each and every member along with the public.
