Tribute
Penyige Family,

I just would like to express my deepest sympathy to each and every memeber of the Penyige family, first of all to Mrs. Penyige, Diane, Steven, and Leona.

John was a loyal forever friend of my uncle Bill over many years, sharing many hours together through Judo, both as students and as senseis. They had many enjoyable times after hours eating at their favorite Chinese restaurant (Golden Dragon) , and getting together sharing meals at each others'homes. Whenever I was included, I was always welcomed with open arms - it was a wonderful feeling, and I will hold those memories forever.

I remember Mr. Penyige had a special place in his heart for Mr. Kawano and cared for him quietly behind the scenes, which was extremely commendable. He set an example of quiet strength and he had a great heart.

In my eyes he was always kind, fair and firm for the right reasons. You always knew where you stood with him; he was as straight-forward and honest as they come. I will always remember Mr. Penyige as my sensei at the Westend Y.M.C.A. He was a huge man, both in stature and in character. He taught me many things, for which I will be forever indebted to him.

Tony Shintani,

Edmonton, Alberta
