Obituary

Alex was born in Edmonton, Alberta  Jan. 31, 1948. He was the first child of Robert Alexander ( Sandy) Dingwall and Anna Elizabeth (Nancy) Forbes. The family moved to Ottawa then to Rosemere, Quebec where he was raised.

An all-around athlete, Alex was a swimmer and diver, basketball player, football player, skier and in retirement an avid golfer. His athletic ability led him to UNB as a student athlete in the Faculty of Physical Education and Recreation (BPE).  He played varsity basketball for 4 years becoming team captain in his fourth year and also played football in his final year.

Alex's academic and athletic career continued as he returned to UNB as an assistant coach for UNB basketball and while there received 2 more degrees.

He was a natural teacher and leader. His career in education provided many opportunities eventually leading to his becoming Superintendent of Schools, School District 18, Province  of New Brunswick from which he retired.  Alex was dedicated to any task, believed in and upheld fair and consistent standards and held a moral and ethical approach to life. Thos who knew him would add he had a great laugh and wonderful sense of humour. He loved a dirty Martini with two olives.

Alex is survived by his wife of 50 years Patricia Ann Dingwall ( nee Sharpe), his son Jordan Alexander Dingwall of Calgary, his sister Katherine Dingwall of Victoria and brother Robert Dingwall of Ottawa and his wife Brindle Peralta.

By request there will be no funeral service; a small private Celebration of Alex's life ( by invitation) will be held in the fall. If desired, memorial donations may be made to : UNB Reds Men's Basketball.
